Topamax is an anti-convulsant

Topamax is different from other migraine medicines as this particular drug will be able to help in reducing the frequency of migraines. Unlike other migraine medicines which you need to take every time you feel an attack is coming, Topamax should be taken daily in order to prevent or reduce the frequency of migraine. It is also known to reduce the pain caused by migraine.

Although Topamax has a very good safety record, some people may still experience side effects when taking this medication. Some people experiences numbness in the arms and legs or that “pins and needles” sensation. There are also reported cases that people felt tired after taking Topamax as well as having a different taste in food and beverages.

Topamax is an anti-convulsant used to treat epileptic seizures in children and adults, and is also prescribed to prevent migraine headaches. Topamax can result in cleft lip or cleft palate – birth defects that occur when the lip or palate fail to completely fuse together. The defect can result in a small, notched lip or in extreme cases, an open groove that extends from the roof of the mouth to the nose.
